Woodhall also hosts a number of educational and tasting oriented events each year, blending some sort of learning experience with the entertaining aspects of wine. The Woodhall Case Club rewards regular Woodhall customers with special benefits, including library tasting, blending parties, luncheons, and special wine purchases. Woodhall's volunteers number well over 150, who at various times may be found pouring wines at festivals, bottling, labeling, pruning vines, and harvesting grapes. In the fall, the volunteers get together for an expansive afternoon of gourmet food and social interaction, drinking the best of Woodhall wines. Woodhall is a member of the Mason-Dixon Wine Trail, agroup of four Maryland and four Pennsylvania wineries which work together to make the wine sampling experience a complete one. September 24 The Highstrung Bluegrass Band Based in Maryland, High Strung blends traditional and modern bluegrass into its own distinctive sounds.Known for its tight three-part harmonies and five-piece instrumentals, High Strung features talented musicians who have played in various bands over the years. Drawn together by a common desire to perform interesting and eclectic acoustic music, High Strung deliveries energetic and fun filled shows that engage and delight audiences of all ages. Band members include Mike Casey (guitar & vocals), Randy Collier (dobro), John Howell (mandolin & Vocals), John Meredith (bass & vocals), and Paul Schiminger (banjo). Every weekend Woodhall features two separate and different special tasting experiences: 1. Vintners Reserve Wine Tasting: Wine maker Chris Kent has selected seven of our finest wines (all black labels) for an exclusive comparative tasting experience. Three of these wines will be tasted against barrel samples of the same wine. Participants will be able to learn the difference between various wine varieties and different vintages, as well as have an opportunity to sample the "Best of Woodhall". The tasting will be conducted by one of the staff well versed and involved in the winemaking process. Tasting Fee: $15.00 2. Comparative Barrel Tasting Tour: Participants have an opportunity to compare five current vintage wines to the 2008 barreled wine of the same variety under the guidance of a staff member knowledgeable and involved in the winemaking process. Tasting Fee: $15.00 An extra 5% case price discount will be available to participants who purchase wine at these tastings. |
